02Feb2010.....1030hrs

Launched by Aberdeen c/g to the Kyle of Tongue causeway where a vehicle had crashed through the barriers and landed in the sea due to black ice.We were launched with the intension to search for casualties that might be in the water but were stood down on arrival at the kyle after covering 26nm in rough sea and  strong easterly wind. We were released from service after the Stornoway Helicopter searched the area and all casualties confirmed present to return to Scrabster arriving at 1330 hrs and readied for service at 1400hrs.

17Feb2010

The Thurso Lifeboat "The Taylors" returns home from her refit in Buckie and goes back into service........

23April 2010.....1126hrs

Launched by coastguard to search for a missing person,requested search area was Holburn Hd to Dunnet Hd,search carried out in moderate conditions with light winds,nothing found after 1.5 hrs and stood down by Aberdeen c/g.

25April2010......1000hrs

Resumed search for same missing person with coastguard shore teams,same conditions nothing found.

29April2010......0920hrs

Launched by Aberdeen c/g to assist FV Osprey at Farid Hd Durness,arrived on scene to find Osprey with fouled propellor.Tow passed and vessel towed to Scrabster arriving at 1645hrs.Thurso Lifeboat refuelled with 1026ltrs and ready for service at 1700hrs.

10May2010.......0220hrs

Early wake up call from Aberdeen c/g to assist the FV Laurel who was 2nm north of Holburn Hd with gearbox failure,a tow was passed and the 65ft fishing boat towed to Scrabster arriving alongside at 0320hrs.

07July2010......2323hrs

Treble 9 call to Thurso police reporting a surfer in trouble in Thurso Bay. Thurso lifeboat launched and yboat deployed to search shoreline inside the lifeboat from west end of Thurso beach to 1.5nm east to spur of Murkle .Stood down by coastguard after surfer was found returning to his car not in any difficulties by shore teams.

08July2010.....0733hrs

Launched by Aberdeen c/g to assist a Jetskier 1nm west of Brims. Located jetskier who was sitting aboard his jetski with his own rope sucked through his machinery rendering the machine useless. He was cold and needed reheating but was not found to be suffering from hypothermia and as the story unfolded was a Cornish RNLI lifeguard on holiday with 3 mates who was on shore and raised the alarm via mobile phone (lucky they had a signal).The jetski was towed back to Scrabster where itwas slipped to aid repair. Lifeboat readied for service at 0900hrs.

09July2010.....0630hrs

Launched by Aberdeen c/g to assist the same jetski in the same place with a different rider on board , this time they  had mechanical failure due to the damage the rope did the previous day. A tow was passed and the jetski towed back to Scrabster and the lifeboat made ready at 0730hrs.

24July2010.....0840hrs

Shetland Coastguard launch to assist missing diver, thought to have the bends in Scrabster harbour ??? Shortly after we were stood down as the missing diver had returned to Stromness on the ferry realising he had mild symptoms and knowing the only decompression chamber was in Stromness. Confusion ruled and we were ready for service 0910hrs.

19Aug2010.....2115hrs

Launched by Aberdeen c/g to assist a rowing boat reported in difficulties at Dervaig Bay 43nm west of Thurso.            Stood down after covering 15nm west as the Stornoway c/g helicopter reported the boat was safe and well,returned to base and boat readied for service at 2230hrs.

 28Aug2010.....1440hrs

Aberdeen C/G requested launch to investigate a liferaft reported upside down 26nm west of station. Lifeboat departed  in moderate conditions and located and investigated the liferaft which had nobody inside.The raft was taken aboard the lifeboat and brought to Scrabster where it was later discovered had been washed off the deck of a German trawler in poor weather. Lifeboat readied at 1830hrs.

 05Sept2010.....1200hrs

Coastguard launch to a yacht "Happy Daze" with engine trouble 43nm WNW of station and requiring assistance.        Lifeboat launched in moderate conditions and arrived on scene 2 hrs later where a tow was established and the 43ft yacht and her 4 crew were towed to Scrabster arriving at 2010hrs and the boat refuelled and readied at 2100hrs.

13Sept2010.....1930hrs

Launched by coastguard, a possible suicide was unfolding on the cliff top at the rockwell caravan site and by the time the boat was on scene the young man had jumped off the 100` cliffs and was being attended by a local paramedic.    The Y boat was launched and Kevin Davidson and James Brims went ashore with all first aid equipment to assist .   The casualty was treated and put in a stretcher for immediate evacuation by helicopter to hospital.The lifeboat and yboat returned to station (0.5nm)and was made ready at 2100hrs 

16Dec2010.......0236hrs  

Aberdeen C/G launch to assist Wick and Scrabster coastguards who are on Holborn Head investigating the reported sighting from an inbound fishing vessel of a light seen on the rocks at Holborn Hd. The Weather had increased to a 45knot Northerly gale with snow squalls making searching along the rocky shore dangerous. Thurso Lifeboat was deployed to search along the shore with searchlights,nightvision and paraflares from the decommissioned lighthouse to the point of Holborn Hd. This was carried out in increasing sea conditions of 5-6m waves breaking on Holborn head.With nothing found after 1 hour we were stood down and returned to station at 0345 and made ready for service at 0400hrs 

25Dec 2010......0011hrs   

Aberdeen c/g launch to FV Kingfisher DH110 who has grounded below Thurso castle,1 hour after high water.Weather conditions were favourable as in no or little wind and a flat calm sea state. Thurso Lifeboat launched at 0020 with 8 crew aboard and was on scene at 0025am.Initial assessments of the situation revealed that the tide had ebb`d too much to attempt a tow off , so the Y-boat was launched and was alongside The Kingfisher where it was decided to remove 3 of the 5 crew to safety and wait for the full ebb and flow of the tide to attempt a tow off in the morning.   Thurso L/B was relaunched at 0915 and returned the 3 crew back aboard, attaching a line to the casualty , towed off at 1015hrs and berthed safely in scrabster at 1100hrs. 

As you can see a fine xmas morning,2 in a row now for Thurso.
