21st January
0400 hrs Large Fishing Vessel Adventurer II INS8 being
towed into harbour by Fishing Vessel Endurance BF98.
Experiencing difficulties. Wind speed in excess of 30
kts. Very heavy swell and requests assistance into
Harbour.
0407 hrs Thurso Lifeboat launched to assist tow.
0445 hrs All vessels in harbour. Adventurer II secured
alongside
0500 hrs Lifeboat closed down ready for service.
21st January
1230 hrs Call received from Northlink Ferry Hamnavoe on
passage Scrabster to Stromness. Vessel lost 4 x 100 man
liferafts off Dunnet Head – request help in securing
them. Hazard to shipping.
1245 hrs LOM notified Aberdeen Coastguard Thurso
lifeboat launching to recover liferafts.
1250 hrs lifeboat launched
1320 hrs arrived on scene – picked up liferafts and
commenced tow back to Scrabster. Sea conditions NW 6 –
7 rough. Squally weather 3 metre swell.
1630 hrs entering Scrabster. Tow line snagged in
liferafts. Awaiting crane to disengage.
1800 hrs close down ready for service.
29th January
0940 hrs call from Aberdeen Coastguard MFV Karen.
Commercial Sea-Angling boat. Engine failure and taking
water. Off Claredon Head. Assistance requested – 12
persons on board plus 2 crew.
0945 hrs Thurso Lifeboat launched to tow vessel back to
Harbour.
1035 hrs Back in Harbour all secured.
1055 hrs
Close down Lifeboat ready for service.
15th May
2303hrs call to go to the crabber Boy Shane who was
disabled with complete engine failure at 6nm west of
the Nun Bank fishing grounds in weather conditions -
Force 5-6 NNE winds with a northerly swell of 4-5
meters. They were in no immediate danger but
required help as soon as possible,Lifeboat launched
at
2315hrs heading 280 degrees in
to head seas but made good a bumpy 21 knots and were
on scene with him at 0200hrs.A Tow was quickly
established and the long tow home began arriving
back at Scrabster at 1430hrs after an incident free
tow and a round trip of 120nm .
The Lifeboat was refuelled
with 1791 liters and made ready for service at
1539hrs on the 16may. See photos here
3rd July
15.15hrs call to assist creel boat Boy Jordan
with two persons on board, engine failure at the
Spur of Murkle, vessel taken under tow back to
Scrabster. Lifeboat returned to base at 16.15hrs.

15th Aug
Call
for local creel boat "Audrey" skippered by Scott
Farquhar who had a fouled propeller and required a
tow from the RockWell in Thurso bay. The wind
conditions were nw4 and sea state moderate so he was
passed him a tow and towed him back to Scrabster.
The whole operation took 45 minutes
22nd Sept
At
0155 to the fishing vessel "Pisces"
SY838 mayday call saying they were
sinking at position 1.25 miles East
of Strathy Point.Lifeboat launched
and on scene at 0253 and picked up
two crew from life raft as the
vessel had sunk. Recue 137 Lossie
helicopter arrived on scene and was
stood down as lifeboat returned to
Scrabster with two survivors at
0345am who were checked over in
Dunbar hospital.

22nd Nov
At
1955hrs called to search for overdue
creel boat "WEE MAN" from Harrow
harbour(1/2nm west Castle o
Mey).Thurso and Longhope Lifeboats
searched shoreline from east side of
Dunnet Head to St Johns Point where
the boat worked his creels.
At
2200hrs the coastguard teams on
shore found the boat washed up on
the beach below the Castle so
looking for one person in the water.
Both boats and RAF Rescue 167
chopper searched the surfline and
2mile out to sea while the C/G teams
searched the coast until 0100 hrs
when the search was stood down to
resume in the daylight at 0700hrs.
Resumed search at 0700hrs with
Longhope boat and Creel boat
Capricorn skippered by Dave Simpson
out of Groats and the coast guard
teams but nothing found.

01st Dec
1655 hrs ,launch
request on pagers from Aberdeen C/G.Boat launched at
1702hrs to the casualty sea angling boat "Hebridean
Warrior"with 4 POB suffered G/box failure 2 nm west
of Dunnet Hd in force 4 to 5 SE wind and moderate
going to rough sea conditions and dark. Lifeboat on
scene at 17 25 hrs at established tow getting back
to Scrabster at 1830 hrs
