13th April
1345 hrs . Call from Aberdeen Coastguard – 999 call
received, Persons tapped on rocks – cut off by tide ¼
mile from station.
1350 hrs “Y” boat launched – 2 young persons lifted off
rocks and taken to lifeboat.
1615 hrs Lifeboat back in harbour. Closing down
4th June
1015 hrs Aberdeen Coastguard received request from
Northern Constabulary Thurso lifeboat launch and search
area off St Johns Point. - Clothing found on rocks /
foreshore.
1025 hrs Lifeboat launched and proceeded
to area.
1100 hrs commenced search
1350 hrs Lifeboat stood down – nothing found.
1430 hrs Back on station.
23rd June
1138 hrs DLA received call from Aberdeen Coastguard – 4
divers overdue off Hoy. Request launch and assist with
search.
1150 hrs Lifeboat launched 1220 hrs Lifeboat stood down.
Divers surfaced safe and well.
1250 Lifeboat back in harbour closing down
3rd July
1042 hrs. Call from Aberdeen C/G – Fishing vessel
Audacious BF 83 aground / ashore at Ness of Quoys.
Pentland Firth.
1050 hrs Lifeboat launched.
1130 On scene – tow rope attached. Attempting to tow
vessel clear assisted by John O Groat Ferry,
Unsuccessful – awaiting rising tide .
1230 hrs Lifeboat tasked to assist un-named creel boat a
quarter of a mile east of Audacious – tow rope passed to
the creel boat and towed to Gills Bay.
1315 hrs Lifeboat back on standby at
fishing vessel Audacious.
2100 hrs Orkney Tug Harald passing tow rope to Audacious
via the Lifeboat.
2240 hrs The Audacious was afloat and taken undertow by
the tug.
2330 hrs the tow was released by the tug and Audacious
steamed to Scrabster under her own power.
0030 hrs the Lifeboat refuelled and ready for service –
closing down.
10th July
0210 hrs Aberdeen Coastguard request launch of lifeboat
- missing yacht – suspect vessel off the north coast
request search along the north coast to Loch Eriboll
0220 hrs lifeboat launched – proceeding west
0253 hrs lifeboat requested return to base – missing
vessel found safe and well
0550 hrs lifeboat back in harbour – refuelled and ready
for service.
18th July
1858 hrs Coastguard received 999 call from pleasure
craft broken down off Holborn Head – 2 persons on board
– requesting assistance.
1910 hrs lifeboat launched
1945 hrs vessel towed back into Harbour safe and well.
24th July
1745 hrs Aberdeen coastguard received 999 call from
person ashore. Sailing yacht had broken her moorings
and was drifting ashore off Castlehill Harbour – request
assistance.
1800 hrs lifeboat launched – Y-boat launched to enter
surf and rig towline to vessel – no persons on board.
Vessel towed to Scrabster
2045 hrs Thurso lifeboat refuelled and ready for
service.
27th July
1125 hrs Rib North Coast Explorer in position southwest
of Stroma in difficulties with 11 persons onboard –
Aberdeen coastguard request launch. Longhope lifeboat
and Wick lifeboat also launch.
1212 hrs Wick and Thurso lifeboats stood down and
returned to base.
1315 hrs lifeboat refuelled and ready for service.
31st July
2245 hrs Aberdeen coastguard received request from
Northern Constabulary – reported object floating in sea
off Strathy Point – request launch. Nothing found.
0200 hrs lifeboat back in harbour closing down.
15th August
1130 hrs Lifeboat was on exercise and a visual
observation of small Fishing Vessel Audrey WK99 appeared
vessel may be experiencing engine difficulties. Vessel
had fuel problems and attempts of repair were
unsuccessful. Audrey was taken undertow back to
Scrabster arriving at 1505 hrs.
27th August
1325 hrs Call from Aberdeen Coastguard request launch
Vessel Arnoy-Trans in difficulties. Position
approximately North Stroma Island. Lost steering 4
persons on board. Weather conditions NW sev gale 9 to
Storm 10. Sea conditions very rough 10 to 15 metre
swell.
1330 Thurso lifeboat launched.
1430 On scene in position 58° 42' N 03° 13' W
attempting to pass the tow. Due to the high seas the
tow rope parted several times and had to be re-secured.
The casualty was towed to safety and returned to
Scrabster, entering the harbour 1900 hrs.
1930 Lifeboat closing down and refuelled ready for
service.

15th October
Merchant Vessel Sanmar Serenade reported injured person
needing medical attention. Six hours advanced warning
for arrival.
1630 hrs Thurso lifeboat with HMA onboard launched to
transfer injured person ashore for observations. Sanmar
Serenade proceed on passage bound New York.
1730 hrs Injured person landed and transferred to Wick
Hospital. Lifeboat secured and ready for service.
25th October
Fishing Vessel Edward Henry DH100 requested assistance
into harbour. Engine failure.
0640 hrs Harbour pilot boat launched to help Edward
Henry. Wind NE strong to gale both vessels being blown
down onto foreshore – request further assistance.
0700 hrs Lifeboat launched to assist harbour pilot boat
and tow in Edward Henry.
0739 hrs Both vessels secured in harbour – lifeboat
closed down.
3rd December
1215 hrs Harbour Office received telephone call from
casualty – small power boat Ruthie. Engine failure.
Vessel drifting onto shore. Request assistance 2 POB.
1217 hrs LOM initiated pagers and notified Aberdeen
Coastguard Thurso lifeboat will launch to assist
casualty.
1220 hrs Lifeboat launched.
1320 hrs Lifeboat back in harbour with casualty all
secured. |
